The Pageant

The Miss Chesterfield Scholaship Pageant is a preliminary to the Miss Virginia Scholarship Pageant. Miss Virginia goes on to compete for the title of Miss America.The Miss America Organization is one of the nation's leading achievement programs and the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. Last year, the Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance. The Miss America Organization has partnered with Children’s Miracle Network to raise funds and awareness for children’s hospitals throughout the United States. It’s just another way the Miss America Organization helps young women leave a legacy of service, scholarship and support.
Meet Delesia

Miss Chesterfield 2012 Delesia Amanda Watson Competition ages 17-24

Delesia believes social networking sites have created an environment for creative communication for individuals and corporations alike, but have simultaneously begun to undermine basic communication skills. At Mason, she has had the opportunity to serve in leadership capacities as a Patriot Leader and mentor with Akoma Circle, both of which came with opportunities to demonstrate and advocate for proper communication. As Miss Chesterfield, she will use her message of creating lasting impressions through proper communication to reach out to as many elementary, middle, high school and college students as she can through the Boys and Girls Club. As Miss Chesterfield, Delesia will make appearances at local schools and businesses, as well as raise money and advocate for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, the official charity of the Miss America Organization.
Delesia is a 22 year old senior at George Mason University pursuing a degree in Communication, concentrating in Public Relations. She is the daughter of D.D. and Roberta Watson of Louisa County. Delesia graduated from Louisa County High School in May 2008 with an advanced diploma. Throughout high school, she was Varsity Co-Captain of the cheerleading squad, a member of the varsity soccer team, Sports Editor of the yearbook, staff writer for the newspaper, and a member of the musical theater ensemble and advanced theater.As a Communication major, Delesia recognizes the impact great communication skills can offer a young person. Thus, she champions the platform, “Communication 101:Creating A Lasting Impression

Miss Chesterfield's Outstanding Teen 2012 Olivia Rebecca Fletcher competition ages 13-17

Olivia Rebecca Fletcher is a 14 year old freshman at Louisa County High School. She is a varsity cheerleader and a flyer on the award winning competition cheering squad. Olivia loves animals and she is an active member of the 4-H livestock club. She shows 4-H goats and lambs. Also, she has raised over 1,000 animals for the Richmond SPCA over the years.Stomp Out HungerHer service platform is Stomp Out Hunger. Olivia is an active volunteer, who packages meals and serves food at a homeless shelter.
Meet Emma

Miss Chesterfield's Outstanding Preteen 2012 Emily Allara Competition ages 10-12

Emily is a 10 yr. old, fifth grade honor roll student at North Cross School in Roanoke. She is the SCA secretary, in the school choir and marimba band. Emily plays basketball, swims and dances competitively. She studies tap, ballet, jazz, hip- hop, and pointe. Emily has achieved the Presidential fitness award first grade thru fifth grade.FAAN, Food Allergy Anaphylaxis Networkis Emily’s platform. Her brother Lucas has many food allergies and is anaphylactic to nuts and seeds. She has chosen this cause in hopes of raising awareness and education of anaphylactic reactions. Food allergies are life- threatening and affect 15 million Americans, 6 million which are children. Emily is concerned with the lack of education and misunderstanding of allergic reactions. Having recently watched her brother have a severe reaction in the school cafeteria, she knew she must become a voice.Emily will be speaking and presenting her platform to various schools and organizations. She hopes to also raise money for FAAN which is a nonprofit organization.Emily is the daughter of Jack and Marla Allara. She has three older brothers, John, Jeff and Lucas.

Director, Teen/Preteen Program - Birdie Hairston Jamison is the "Pageant Mom" of Miss Virginia's Outstanding Teen 2010 - Courtney Jamison. Over the past eight years, she has been actively involved with helping her daughter and many other young ladies prepare for the challenges of pageant competition. Mrs. Jamison's philosophy has been to encourage each girl to enjoy her own personal journey to self improvement. By always focusing on the positive attributes of pageantry, she has stressed the importance of developing and improving skills that will prepare the contestants for "life".She graduated with honors from the College of William and Mary with a degree in Business and earned a Juris Doctrate from the Marshall Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary. While pursuing a successful legal career that has spanned three decades, she has also dedicated herself to her family and her community. She truly enjoys working with young people and has consistently been a mentor/tutor since she graduated from high school. As the Director for the Pre-teen and Teen Program for the Miss Chesterfield Scholarship Pageant, she hopes to help all of the contestants maximize their potential for success.
Director, Princess Program - Linda Thomas is a Strategic Global Account Manager with Development Dimensions International, Inc., and has more than 12 years of experience providing human resource solutions to Fortune 100 and 500 global companies. Before joining DDI, Linda was a Regional Sales Manager in the area of employee relationship management.Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and still very much a Steelers fan, Linda has come to call Midlothian, Virginia home for 19 years. She is married to Derrick Thomas and has three children, Gianna, Evian and Corbin and an adorable grandson, Jayden. Though her professional travels and commitments keep her busy, Linda loves time spent with family and friends, listening to jazz and when possible working within the community. She is a member of National Association for Female Executives, HR & Talent Management Executive Group, immediate past President, Midlothian Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and its former Program Director. Linda’s community service efforts have included Virginia Special Olympics, services at various homeless shelters, school mentoring, YMCA’s Bright Beginning’s and others. She is excited to be working with the Miss Chesterfield program and most particularly with the lovely young ladies in the Princesses Program.
Executive Director - Kyle Grinnage is an Independent Director and National Senior Trainer for BeautiControl Cosmetics. Also, she is an Image Consultant and a makeup artist who has designed makeup looks for several of the local NBC news reporters. She has appeared in TV commercials and on several Dress Your Best for Less segments on the NBC news. In her role on the NBC12 Miss America interview preparation panel for Miss Virginia, Kyle has worked with Tara Wheeler, Katie Uze and she is proud to have helped prepare Caressa Cameron, Miss Virginia 2009, to win Miss America 2010. Kyle Grinnage has held many leadership positions, including the Mid-Atlantic Regional Director for Jack and Jill of America, Inc. She has served on numerous boards including the parents’ board of the Richmond Ballet. Currently she serves on the W.H.O. Foundation Advisory Board, the Chesterfield County Public School’s Technical Education Advisory Council and is a trustee of the Chesterfield County Public Education Foundation and serves on the board of the Mega Mentor Program.New York City natives, Kyle and her husband Kym have lived in Midlothian, VA since 1990. They have two adult daughters, Kerri and Kendra.

Qualifications

Competition Qualifications

A contestant must be born female. A contestant must be a U.S. citizen. A contestant must have never been married. A contestant must be a resident of city/town/state for a least six months preceding the date of the local pageant in which she wishes to compete OR must have fulfilled eligibility requirements by educational status or employment. A contestant must have never performed any act or engaged in any activity or employment that is or could reasonably be characterized as dishonest, immoral, or indecent. A contestant must be between the ages of 17-24 years of age. A high school graduate and no older than twenty-four (24) years of age on December 31, 2012 (for Miss America 2013). A contestant must be of good moral character and never have been pregnant and is not now pregnant nor the adoptive parent of any child and has not been involved at any time in any act of moral turpitude. A contestant must never have been convicted of any crime and does not have any criminal charges pending. Must be a high school graduate or have successfully completed the G.E.D. testing program for high school equivalency or have successfully completed the academic requirements for entry into a four-year college/ university degree program by July 30th immediately preceding the National Finals. A contestant must be in good health and can participate fully and without limitation in any program activities. A contestant must participate in actual competition in a local pageant within the year immediately preceding her competition in the state pageant and be certified the winner of that local. A contestant must not use or consume any illegal controlled dangerous substances or abuse the use of alcohol or other dangerous substances.
